suspension squeaks

during the Running-in period of my T24 i found that the suspension was making some strange graunching noises, mostly noticable at slow speed and parking etc. various rouses were tried- PTFE spray on shox bushes, greased pull rods, oiled springs, some improved matters but only short term.

I stripped down one spring unit and found the spring chaifing on it's retaining cup (photo)

the spring needed to be lifted away from it's retaining cup but clearly gravity was going to do it's thing whenever you drove over a hump-back bridge a bit quick. the cup measures just larger than the spring diameter so no room for a 3D printed seat for the spring.

what i made was a shim to seperate spring from cup- this was a strip of PTFE plastic about .014" thick, 1 1/4" x 7" and sticky backed- left over from a kitchen refit where it's used to guide drawers into units i think, this was fitted in a U- shape into the cup to hold the spring seperate(photo)

this mod has now completed some 300 miles and reduced the noise dramatically though not gone entirely, it also feels as if the suspension travel has increased by smoothing the spring movement during it's compression cycle- though this might be wishful thinking!

anyway, so far, so good. i'm working on a 3D printed Pull-rod guide to stop any chaifing between rod and it's hole in the spring retaining cup/bracket- but that's for another day. will post later if it's found to work. hope this is of some help to someone.

PS- this info was sent to Guy at PMC and he thanked me for the r&d! and said i was free to post the info here.
